HomeTiles v0.9.0
v0.9.0 connects panels to the Bridge directly without MQTT and adds head bar layouts with pages, an upright mode, a light theme, and a new Settings screen with a first-start setup on the panel.
Highlights
- Direct link to the Bridge: press Pair on the panel and add it in Home Assistant. No MQTT broker is needed; existing MQTT setups keep working.
- Layouts: the new head bar layout shows fewer, larger tiles under a head with title, time and gear. ESP32-P4 panels mounted upright get their own upright layout. The Web Admin's layout window keeps separate places for every layout.
- Pages: up to five folders become pages beside Home. Dots in the head show the page; swipe or tap beside the dots to turn it, or open the overview.
- Light theme: Dark, Light or Automatic (light by day, dark by night), on the panel and in the Web Admin.
- New Settings on the panel with Wi-Fi list, keyboard with accents and French AZERTY, and a first-start setup in four steps.
- Entity picker like in Home Assistant: search every entity through the Bridge, with Recent and Favorites on top (#79).
- Clock tile: analog and wall clock styles, weekday and more date formats, rolling digits (#13). The Text tile has nine alignments, half height and a transparent style.
- Cameras: full screen on every ESP32-P4 panel at up to 30 FPS (#65), camera streams on the ESP32-S3 panels, camera tiles that show the picture (#50), and the screensaver can show a Home Assistant camera or image (#69). A View select option opens a camera straight in full screen, for example for a doorbell.
- Simpler colors: a tile's color always comes from its icon, with one Fill option; color rules can fill a tile too.
- Edge swipes for Settings, Home, Back and the screensaver.
- The Weather tile can show its own temperature and humidity sensors, in the weather entity's unit (#85, #86 by @derhally).
- Faster popups, folders and screensaver, and many fixes, including the Safari selection ring (#80), gauge decimals (#83) and the view catalog language (#72).
Update Notes
Update to HomeTiles Bridge v0.9.0 first and export your dashboard in Web Admin under Import / Export before updating.
Use the regular .bin for OTA or the browser installer's Update mode. Use _factory.bin only for a first installation or an intentional reset. Select the exact board and revision.
Going back to v0.8.0: v0.8.0 only knows the classic layout. Before downgrading, open the layout window, switch to Classic, make sure no tile is red, and save. Panels mounted upright show the classic landscape layout on v0.8.0. v0.8.0 needs MQTT; a panel on the direct link must be added in Home Assistant over MQTT again. Updating to v0.9.0 again restores every layout, page and place. See Going back to v0.8.0.
Hardware Confirmed
The maintainer tested this release on M5Stack Tab5, Waveshare LCD-4B and LCD-8, Guition JC8012P4A1 V2 and Guition ESP32-4848S040 (S3), including the direct link, head bar layouts, pages and the light theme. Built-in cameras were tested on Guition V2 and Tab5. A downgrade to v0.8.0 and the update back were tested on the Waveshare LCD-8.
Pending Hardware Validation
The upright mode on the Guition JC1060P470C, Waveshare 7B and the Guition JC4880P443 in landscape, built-in cameras on the other P4 boards, and the Guition JC8012P4A1 V3 and Waveshare 7B v3 images still need field feedback. See the device support notes.
Thanks to @derhally for the Weather sensors and to everyone reporting and testing.
